for parents

Medical Release Form (.pdf) - Every youth that is a regular attendee at New Town should turn in a medical release form. You can download the form here, and turn it in to the youth director or to the church office. We update release forms every year starting with the new school year in September.

philosophy of youth ministry
parents first
The youth ministry at New Town UMC believes that parents are the most important people in the lives of youth. We believe that you are the primary spiritual leader for your youth, and therefore our goal at New Town UMC is to support what you are already doing as a parent. Sometimes this is easier said than done, but we are committed to working with you and to doing whatever we can to help. Please hear this as an open invitation to communicate your likes and dislikes and your hopes and dreams with us.

family-based youth ministry
Our goal at New Town UMC is to help young people develop into lifelong followers of Jesus Christ. We want our church to think of itself as family for our youth and for every youth in Williamsburg and the surrounding areas. As family, we hope to encourage youth to follow Christ for their whole lives and to be there for them through thick and thin. We hope that our young people will see themselves not just as youth, but as significant parts of the greater body of believers. We seek to give them significant roles and responsibilities, so that they understand that they matter to God and can have an impact for him now. Our goal is to serve alongside them as we all seek to advance God’s Kingdom.

simple but long-term
Obviously, a family-based youth ministry relies heavily on lots of time invested in the lives of young people. There are no shortcuts or easy tricks to helping a youth connect with God and feel accepted as a part of a church. It takes time! And like many families, there are bumpy spots and difficult times to go through. However, we are committed for the long haul, and we’re confident that with God’s help we’ll see our youth grow into strong, lifelong disciples of Christ.
